Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Corbett remembers a particular instance when she felt a connection to a patient that she had taken care of after surgery. She walked into the room to find a younger woman lying in the bed, who looked familiar to her, but she didn’t know why. They started talking about her plan of care for that day when they both realized how they knew each other. This woman had been her next-door neighbor when she lived in the small town of Grace, ID. Ms. Corbett’s family had moved when she was in high school, and they had lost touch. She took care of her for several days following her surgery and was the one that discharged her from the hospital when she was well enough to go home. She felt such a strong connection to her and her family and was honored to be able to care for her in her time of need. After the woman was discharged, she found Ms. Corbett’s parent's address and wrote them a note informing them that their daughter was her nurse while she was hospitalized and thanked them for raising such a wonderful woman that had helped her through a tough time. She thought it was so amazing that she had touched her in such a way, that she had felt the need to find her parents and write them a note thanking them. She has had several other patients since then write notes to her after they have left the hospital telling her how much she touched them and what an impact she had on their lives and their future goals.
