What Does He/She Attribute Success To:
I attribute my success to my family and values learned there such as hard work, honesty, and perseverance; as well as to my belief in God and because of all the amazing service rendered to me by other people, family members, educators, colleagues, friends, authors, and role models. My experience serving as a missionary in Iceland was extremely valuable to me in increasing my self confidence and developing attributes of leadership.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
After returning home from a mission in Iceland, I taught Icelandic to missionaries at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, for five years. At this time, my love and passion for the Icelandic language overpowered my natural shy disposition and I realized I would love teaching. My father had a post-doctorate in Biology and was a top plant breeder in the world for 30 years. Much of my interest in teaching science came from him. He strongly encouraged me to go into education.
Extended Bio Profile:
In 5th grade, when learning about the planets, I became very absorbed in the subject and went way beyond what the teacher required. I did reports on all the planets, not just one, and even wrote a class play which we acted out that was similar to Star Trek. I told my Dad that I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up: an astronomer. Though I am not an astronomer today, the love of science has stayed with me and I often teach about the universe, the special theory of relativity, and anything else which I find exciting.

I've always been interested in learning foreign languages. I've studied German, Spanish, Icelandic, and Danish. From 1986-1988, I served a mission in Iceland. In 1999, I took my wife and 6-month old baby with me to study German at the Goethe Institute in Prien, Germany for a summer. I would love to be involved in designing new foreign language software or interactive web sites, though currently I am lacking in computer expertise.

I went to the College of Southern Idaho for one year, Brigham Young University for six years, and Boise State for an additional year. I graduated with 216 semester credits from BYU in 1994 with a minor in Scandinavian Studies. Most recently, I graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Global MBA with the idea of increasing my opportunities to use my foreign language abilities.

Ever since I was a kid, I have been interested in writing books. In second grade, I sold my drawings and stories to classmates for marbles to play with at recess. While at the University of Phoenix, I discovered that my writing abilities stood out and helped me to be successful. I finally finished my first science fiction novel, Hidden People, last year. I need to edit it and polish the story and I hope to find a publisher for it.

My first year teaching was at Dugway Proving Grounds, a military installation in Utah. I taught Physical Science, Pre-Algebra, Physics, and German. In addition, I coached 8th grade boys' basketball. After that year, where they let me go because of downsizing in the military, I got hired at Spanish Fork Junior High in the Nebo School District. Currently, I am in my 15th year at this school and am teaching German, Life Science, and Earth Science. Morevoer, I am the Science Team Leader for collaboration.

Where Will You Be In 5 Years:
In 5 years, I hope to continue teaching students and develop my abilities to design web pages and web sites such as the web site developed by the University of Iceland to help people learn languages. I have written a text book called Let's Learn Icelandic and would like to transfer this knowledge to an enjoyable web site format.
