Dr. Pierce has practiced medicine in a poor and underserved area for more than 50 years, and he has never turned away a patient who could not pay or did not have insurance. He believes that a person's character is represented in how he or she treats poor and underserved people.

He became involved in his profession after realizing the need for doctors in Hancock County.
Extended Bio Profile:
Dr. Pierce was assigned to USS Alabama in the South Pacific at the age of 17. During his time as a physician at Hancock Medical Center, he assisted in the delivery of 2,228 babies. He was at work or on call 24 hours and seven days a week for 19 years, without any vacations, because he was the only doctor in Hancock County at the time. Currently, he continues to maintain his medical practice, but has been practicing from home for the past four years. As a farmer, he has successfully operated on horses, cattle, dogs and pigs. He has been a teacher in the Bible school for 37 years and a Sunday school teacher for 42 years.
