Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
He became involved in his profession because after retiring from government work after 23 years, a friend said since he was President of a national construction organization, he could aid the group's rebranding of its accreditation Division. He thought it would be an interesting challenge, especially with his experience.
Extended Bio Profile:
Mr. LeBlond, chief executive officer of the Canadian Council of Technicians & Technologists, has been in the field of construction management prior to his coming on board at the council. He was also association manager for 10-plus years and was granted a fellowship by Construction Specifications Canada, the sister organization of Construction Specifications Canada Institute. He is a certified sustainability professional and is fluent in French and English, which greatly enhances his new position. He became chief executive officer at the council in September 2011, and as such, oversees Canadian standards, national and international mobility, and national accreditation of technology programs. The council establishes and maintains the National Technology Benchmarks® in the following applied science and engineering technology disciplines: bioscience, industrial, building, instrumentation, chemical, mechanical, civil, mining, electrical, petroleum, electronics, geometrics, forestry and information technology. One of their main goals is to “educate the educators” on the need for technology workers. He was responsible for launching a National Technology Week (first week of November across Canada) in schools (grades 7-9) to increase interest in the fields of applied science and engineering technology.

Managing the council; Keeping the members abreast of all changes and impacts of technology in the Canadian market; Assisting in getting scholarship sponsors, such as TD Insurance, a subsidiary of TD Bank; Planning the technology fairs; Outsourcing marketing and communications; Creating a technology calendar that is distributed to schools and agencies every month with a different tech invention; Overseeing finances and human resources; Creating the budget; Planning board meetings; Operating the national accreditation program; Owning and managing National Technology Week and GoTECHgirl activities
