She became involved in her profession after moving to the U.S. in 1983. She started working for a small nutrition company, and after a short period of time she moved into the pharmaceutical field.

Ms. Vanam holds two international patents on analytical methods and stability of a molecule. She has done public speaking on generics for the Food and Drug Administration. While she was in school, her work in endocrinology was published.
