She attributes her success to the support she has received from her parents, who were the drivers of her motivation, and to her wholesome upbringing, which was focused on education.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession because her background is in education and counseling. She has served as a teacher and counselor in Texas and Michigan, has interned with the NCAA, and served as a college student affairs and athletics administrator in Texas, North Carolina and Michigan. Also, as a former basketball scholarship student-athlete, Dr. Hilliard has maintained a long-standing interest in sports and in educating others.

Dr. Hilliard provides leadership for the department's programming and professional development initiatives for the players. She is involved in charitable and volunteer activities; part of what she does is related to serving those in need.

Maintaining player relationships; Handling and resolving player issues or concerns; Planning team awareness meetings for all teams; Working closely with the National Basketball Players Association; Developing and managing the implementation of player programs; Securing quality control; Interacting with team management; Identifying industry experts and professional development resources and organizations; Coordinating training and development of team staff; Engaging in off-season conferences
