Expanded Biography:
Mr. Hamby was born on Mother's Day, 1929. From birth to age 6, he had above average intelligence and was very athletic. He contracted encephalitis at 6 years old, had numerous surgical procedures, and ended up permanently crippled on his left side. He lost his memory, control of speech and his IQ dropped, which was later improved by brain cell replacement surgery. From 1935 to 1994, he entered the workforce and tried to stay competitive among his peers. He was determined to be normal mentally and used social avenues like the drama, debate and social club at Pace College to come of out his mental and social shell.
He married in 1958 to his ever loving neighborhood sweetheart, they had two children and five great grandchildren and he learned how to drive a car. He retired in 1994 at age 65, moved to Hudson, Fl. for eight years, and worked part time for a local hospital for about five years. Throughout his career, he gained 35 years of experience and knowledge as a financial director and health care administrator. He then returned to Long Island to be close to his children, presently residing in Port Jefferson Station. His hobbies are now writing fictional novels, eight of which have been published. The "Adventures of Alfred Hambie and Wife Theresa" is scheduled to be published early in 2012.

He attributes his success to his hard work, having had encephalitis, and the competition between himself and two successful college-educated brothers; one is an attorney and the other a cardiologist.

He became involved in his profession because he was passionate about national health care and economics.
