Her maternal grandmother because she spend a lot of summers with her grandparents. They had a farm where she loved to spend her time. Her grandmother, and the experiences she provided for Joan, were forever memorable, and Joan would love to talk to her grandmother about those times.

She became involved in her profession because Girl Scouts of the USA gave her the opportunity to work with special needs children; she loved it and stayed with it.
Extended Bio Profile:
As a kindergarten inclusion teacher, Ms. Hinderliter-Darnell feels that every day is an adventure, never knowing what the students will say or do. She and her co-teacher are always on their toes.
Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Working with special needs students; Trying to teach children the basics with goals set by the school; Working with children in special programs; Teaching mathematics; Writing reports; Customizing instruction based on each child's special needs
