He would also like to be remembered as a caring, loving and compassionate coach to his students, their parents and faculty members, and the people he had the privilege to know and serve with in the Armed Forces.

He became involved in his profession because he has always wanted to be a teacher and coach.

Mr. De Matteis was in the U.S. Army for 20 years. He has two taekwondo black belts, one black belt in karate, and one red belt in judo.

In five years, Mr. De Matteis intends to pursue a Ph.D. in educational administration at Saint Louis University. He also hopes to become a college-level athletic director.
