She attributes her success to the support of her parents and the personal fulfillment she receives from making a difference in the lives of others.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession because as someone who moved to the U.S. from England, she believes strongly in immigrant rights and wanted to help people learn to speak English; she feels that all people have the right to be happy and live where they want to. She started her educational career by tutoring a small boy from Japan and realized realized she didn't particularly enjoy working with children, but did like helping people learn another language and becoming part of their adopted homelands. From there, she went on to work as a teacher and then become involved in educational administration.
Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Directing a grant-funded program geared toward citizenship preparation for 300 permanent residents in Montgomery County; Setting up classes; Hiring instructors; Maintaining regular communications with the students; Attending immigration meetings and events affecting students; Helping immigrants integrate into the community; Inspiring them to think about what it is to be a citizen; Balancing the program's budget; Ensuring that all files and student enrollment forms are handled properly
