She attributes her success to her hard work, passion and constant desire to help the field advance to the next level.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession after earning a degree and working in the United Kingdom. She worked in cancer research before moving to Boston. For her entire life, she has liked computers and the medical field. When she discovered medical informatics, she was determined to pursue a career in this field; it afforded her the perfect opportunity to interact with clinicians and work with computers.
Extended Bio Profile:
Dr. Sordo was born in Mexico City, and moved to the U.S. in 2002. She has taught at the Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Dental Medicine from 2005 to 2011. She was also involved in teaching in Mexico City; she taught high school and college level classes in computing, mathematics and statistics, as well as qualification courses in computer software for management personnel. From 2010 to 2011, she served as an associate scientist within the informatics department of Children’s Hospital Boston. She has been involved with this hospital since 2006 as a collaborator for an informatics program. From 2008 to 2010, she was an assistant in computer science for Massachusetts General Hospital. Before working in this position, she spent 2002 to 2008 at Brigham and Women's Hospital as a research associate in medical informatics. Dr. Sordo has also been involved in software development and consulting in Mexico between 1990 and 1994. She later served from 2000 to 2008 as a software adviser in the United Kingdom for the Sussex & Kent ME/CFS Society. She has been involved in the editing of a number of publications. She has served as the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Computers in Healthcare and the editor of Advanced Computational Intelligence Paradigms in Healthcare -3. Dr. Sordo has been invited to speak at the University of Sussex, where she gave a seminar titled, “KBANNs and the classification of 31P MRS of malignant mammary tissues.” She has also been invited to lecture at MIT and Harvard Medical School on numerous occasions. Most recently, in 2005, she discussed health care standards at the annual Partners IS Research Symposium in Boston. The same year, she spoke at the Sixth International Symposium on Biological and Medical Data Analysis in Portugal. Dr. Sordo has co-authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters.
