She attributes her success to her aunt, whom she still thinks of every day, as well as her students.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession while attending nursing school; she realized that she wanted to teach nursing and practice it at the same time.
Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Hawkins has served as a professor at the University of Connecticut. As an author, she has written more than 200 articles and editorials, and 36 books. Additionally, she has participated in reviewing, translating and editing various scholarly articles and manuscripts. Ms. Hawkins has conducted numerous research studies related to the nursing field, in areas such as fertility, natural family planning, contraceptives and pregnancy. During her career, she has had the honor of working with U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Harvard Geriatric Education Center, the National Institutes of Health, and many more notable organizations. She has also made media appearances in USA Today, Medical Times and various radio stations.
