She attributes her success to her competencies matching her role, staying true to herself, being very positive, education, not being afraid of confrontation and being very direct.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession because at one time she was more academically inclined and was earning a Ph.D. She spent time in New York for a year, and she was going to complete her thesis in the Netherlands, but got a postdoctorate fellowship in New York. While she was in the Netherlands, she met her husband, and she changed her plans; long-distance relationships don't work, so stayed in the Netherlands. She found a job in the Netherlands in the pharma industry, and knew it was the right decision.
Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Overseeing the program managers who are responsible for the clinical development of the compounds; Coaching and guiding direct reports; Taking part in organizational process improvements on a global basis
Where Will You Be In 5 Years:
In five years, Dr. Tio would like to reach the next level, maybe a global position. She wants to progress in the same line, learn more and gain more experience in other areas in the pharma industry.
