She became involved in her profession, after retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, because she wants to stay young and active. She started at the post office as a clerk, and retired as a postmaster.

Ms. Martell retired in 2010 after 26 years in a rural community for the U.S. Postal Service. As a postmaster, she was responsible for all post office duties, including receiving and sorting mail, waiting on customers, getting mail to the carriers, budgeting and accounting.
