Extended Bio Profile:
Martina is originally from Rapid City, S.D. In her early years she grew up near the Black Hills and learned to appreciate the beauty of nature and the ruggedness of the plains. When she was in middle school, her family moved to Florida, where she was exposed to the gentle southern culture and climate. Having a mother who was born and raised in North Carolina, she truly felt at home in this beautiful, tropical state. Her mother was raised in a musically talented family that performed live throughout North Carolina. Therefore, she was influenced by music all her life. As a child, she was coached by her mother in singing primarily gospel music. Her mother, sister and herself sang in the church as a trio. She also lead music as a worship leader in a small church for about a year with her husband, before they moved out to California. Her mother was a part of the famous "Summer's Trio" in North Carolina in the 1940s. Her mother, uncle and aunt traveled throughout the state singing at churches, country clubs and fairs, and performed on live radio programs as young adults. This has certainly influenced her musical style. She writes song lyrics and melodies as well as performing lead vocals. As with all musical talent, Ms. Baker hopes to someday get her songs out to the public. She gets her original ideas from everyday life, including joys, as well as pain and heartache. She is a breast cancer survivor for five years now and enjoys life to the fullest. Music is her first love. When not working as a nurse for a Children's Medical Services (CMS), she is busy working on writing music and creating songs. She got on the music circuit recently. Her music is still evolving and will continue to change. She cose the stage Martine Baker to honor her late Mother, Elma Summers Baker & Stepdad, William B. Baker.
