She attributes her success to her background of teaching and passion about her brother and his work.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession because when her brother was in school, she realized the students cannot work and go to school at the same time. For many, it is a second career, and the economic hardship is immense. When her brother passed away, she decided to start the foundation to help others.
Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Barba began working in the nonprofit arena many years ago and was a teacher for 21 years. Her family started doing work with the foundation of Palm Beach State College for a scholarship after her brother died. It was called the GW Bailey Fund, but she wanted to start a foundation that was a scholarship. The foundation provides equipment and educational materials at Palm Beach State College.
Ms. Barba previously taught adult education in the Broward Detention Complex for Adjudicated Adults. This opened her eyes to the problems facing the lower socioeconomic adult women. They needed real life skills. She also taught in the Broward County School District at the Quiet Waters Elementary School, grades three to five. Her late brother was a volunteer for the Palm Beach County Fire Department.
