She became involved in her profession through her familial connections in the education industry. Her mother founded The Jose Maria Vargas University in Caracas, Venezuela.

Ms. Parra has been involved in educational administration since she was 18 years old. Before becoming the president of Jose Maria Vargas University, she worked at various preschools and high schools. Dr. Parra has done public speaking and has had articles published as well.
