He attributes his success to the support he received from his mentors, and being in the right place at the right time.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
He became involved in his profession because he is a product of the Alliance for Progress. He was going to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, but accepted the honor of representing the U.S. Army as an exchange cadet to the Argentine Military Academy, Colegio Militar de la Nacion.
Extended Bio Profile:
Mr. Olson retired full time in August of 2007 and was made dean emeritus of the Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies. However, a colleague convinced him to work as a part-time adjunct professor, teaching Spanish Latin American culture classes.

Performing adjunct work as a consultant; Teaching Latin American culture and civilization

In five years, Mr. Olson hopes to help citizens of Latin America and the U.S. better understand and relate to one another.
