She attributes her success to her leaders and mentors, who provided course correction along the way. She found that in the military she was allowed to demonstrate her leadership skills, and think out of the box.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession because she joined the navy in 1982 as an industrial hygienist and found that she didn't like it so she moved into hospital administration. She has held positions which include the insight of more than 2500 people, and she reached an operating commander role. She wanted to go into executive medicine, and was chosen to become the chief of staff due to her experience and expertise.

Ms. Nelson successfully accomplished a chief operating officer tour of a health care system; chief executive officer of a health care system; Chief of Staff of a large multi-armed service health care system.
