Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession through her experience in public relations with General Foods; she was in the industry for more than 25 years at her own public relations agency. She utilizes those same public relations skills in her work now.
Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Burton started as an account executive at BBDO and spent twenty five years in Manhattan, owning a public relations agency. Her name was Kathryn Curran at that time and her clients are Sharp Electronics, Goya Food, a large group from Unilever, McKesson Parmaceuticals, etc. She took over the presidency of J&S Petroleum in December 2010, when her husband passed, but had been very active in that industry throughout their marriage. She's also passionately involved with shoreline and wetland conservation, has been President of the East Lyme and Nyantic Land Conservation Trust for more than 10 years. As well as very active on saving the Mute Swan, she is published on these topics and speaks and presents as well. She has published two small books in 2009 and has been asked to do a third. She's also currently working with a friend of her husband's on his invention to assist wheelchair users. Ms. Burton also ran a magazine for seven years called "Southwestern Woman."
