Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession because she was always strong in mathematics and science. In high school, she wanted to be a teacher and in college she began studying education, but then her father encouraged her to pursue computer science.
Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Smith has been in information technology for 14 years. She was with the Lockheed Martin Corporation for seven years, as a software support analyst and system administrator. She was with Configuresoft for 5 years doing system administration, business analysis, R&D and product management work. Configuresoft was acquired by EMC and then VMware, Inc and she has stayed with VMware through the acquisition. VMware, Inc is 10,000 strong and was formed in 1999.
Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Driving the vision of the product; Talking to customers; Conferring with sales representatives about product development; Doing market analysis to improve the product; Defining, driving and prioritizing product features and functionality for research and development to implement; Helping to determine how a product is released; Informing customers about new opportunities; Writing plans and requirements to meet customer needs; Prioritizing defects that come in; Overseeing management of the product throughout its lifecycle; Helping all divisions; Training staff on the product; Helping to interview new candidates; Working with marketing to go to market and competitive analysis; Assisting in contracts with other vendors for integration and partnering solutions
