The most gratifying aspect of her career is encountering someone she has worked with in the past, either as a manager, instructor or mentor, and they tell her that "knowing you made a change in my life." She feels that there is nothing more rewarding than knowing she had a positive effect on someone, and they remember.

What Does He/She Attribute Success To:
She attributes her success to her tenacity and love for her job, and staying up to date on the latest technologies. Every day is a learning experience and an opportunity to remain informed about technology.
Why did you become involved in your profession or industry?:
She became involved in her profession because she started working as a systems engineer, and was given the opportunity to grow as a developer, and ultimately, as a senior project manager. After 30 years of working with various government entities, and with various computer-technology companies, she was given the opportunity to expand into tax and revenue applications, and work with her current company.
Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Herbert has been a project manager for more than 30 years, working with both state and federal agencies. She worked with the State of California from 1986 to 1990 as a contractor for Tandem Computers; the State of New Mexico from 2006 to 2010; the State of Arkansas, from 2010 to 2011; and she is currently working as a Project Manager for a new contract for the State of Michigan. She also worked with the NASA/Johnson Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas, from 1979 to 1983. She has been involved with computer and software technology companies for 35 years.
Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Provisioning and setting up tax and revenue software systems for state and government agencies; Assisting government tax and revenue agencies in serving their customers and the public in a timely, fair, and cost-efficient manner; Managing long-term projects to convert legacy systems into the next-gen hardware and database technology in multimillion-dollar contract environments

Where Will You Be In 5 Years:
In five years, Ms. Herbert plans to continue working in the same position, and expanding the size and scope of the projects she manages. Eventually, she plans to retire and "go home to her beloved Colorado mountains and her 'Castle in the Pines'."
