Dr. Dean hopes to inspire children to commit themselves to education and overcome the challenges they face in society. Through Kids on the Move America, she runs a 12-month program targeting 9- to 14-year-old at-risk, ethnically diverse, low-income girls and boys in Alameda County; she teaches them a variety of essential life and educational skills.
