He became involved in his profession because of his travel and study in India.
Extended Bio Profile:
Mr. Smith began his teaching career at San Diego University in 1964. As professor, he brought his research interests into the classroom, enabling his students to learn to work with original sources and to think critically about a wide variety of historical issues. He wrote a trilogy about the Vietnam War titled, "One Armed Buddha" in 1967. He has written several poems and short stories throughout the years. He spent 32 years lecturing about history, including South and East Asian civilizations and India. Mr. Smith created the curriculum for three courses, "History of Modern India," "Asian Civilizations" and "Vietnam." He has since retired as professor of history. He released his first published novel, "The Persian Jesuit: A Romance of India in the Age of Akbar" through Trafford Publishing of Bloomington, Ind. His other writings include articles, short stories, plays, poems and essays that address major historical and cultural issues.
