She became involved in her profession because she was inspired by the oil paintings that were left behind by someone after his death.
Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Burr began painting early in her career. She is known for her modernist, expressionist landscapes, and still life and figurative work. As a dancer, she performed for the San Francisco Ballet, the American Ballet Theater, and several Broadway musicals. She toured the United States and Europe during her dancing career. She danced in 10 Broadway shows, such as "The King and I." She danced until she was 40. She has been working on graphic arts at Monterey Peninsula College for 20 years, doing painting and sculpting. She writes poetry and had been published. She attended classes with Jon Corbino at The Art Students League in New York, and has also attended classes under Victor di Gesu in Monterey. With her children and grandchildren in attendance, Ms. Burr gave an inspiring demonstration of the aikido technique and spirit. She started aikido in 1995 at the age of 73. On the day before her 80th birthday, she tested to become a shodan at Aikido of Monterey.
