He became involved in his profession because he believes he can make a positive difference in the lives of veterans through community service.
Extended Bio Profile:
The Rev. Gambles retired as a first sergeant and senior logistic support after serving for more than 24 years in the U.S. Army. Subsequent to his retirement, he worked at Solano State Prison in Calif., until injuries he had received during his military service prevented him from performing his duties as a corrections officer. Having noticed that many of the people who were incarcerated were veterans of military service, the Rev. Gambles became determined to do what he could to help them reclaim their integrity, revive their spirit, and return to their communities as productive citizens. He has provided benefit counseling to more than 7,000 military veterans and their families, and looks forward to serving many more through his nonprofit resource center. Also, he and his wife have been married for 35 years.
