What has been the most outstanding thing you have done thus far in your career?:
The most outstanding accomplishment of my career thus far is to develop the people, processes and systems to support the ongoing rapid growth at Playworks Education Energized. In a difficult economic climate, we successfully expanded our operations from 10 to 15 cities last year and added over 100 program staff with minimal growth in administrative headcount. We just opened in 7 new cities and added another 100 program staff.
Expanded Biography:
My decision to leave a long career with publicly traded companies and join a social venture was prompted by three questions from the book "Tomorrow. Adventures in an Uncertain World" by Bradley Trevor Greive. The questions were "What is it that really gets you excited about being alive? What do you really want to do with the limited time that you have? What will your personal legacy be?" After 15 months at Playworks, I continue to arrive at the office excited about the day ahead; we address similar growth issues faced by public companies as we expand our operations to reach more children and more schools; and at the end of the day I know that I played a small part to improve the physical health, socio-emotional well-being and classroom concentration of 120,000 elementary school children that day. It is tremendously rewarding to work with our staff, educators, board members, volunteers, and supporters who give so generously of their time, talents and financial resources to build a better tomorrow for children across the country.
