Extended Bio Profile:
Ms. Berg came to New York City with the intention of becoming a writer and after four years in the city, she decided to move to upstate New York where she built a small cabin in the Adirondacks. She was inspired by Thoreau and Zen philosophy and wanted to live a self-sustaining life of voluntary simplicity surrounded by a natural world of trees and wild animals. She switched to a macrobiotic diet, bought organic, whole grains and other supplies. She became disenchanted with the publishing world and became more and more attracted to visual art. She wanted to have the freedom to create whatever inspired her, whether she was writing or painting. Eventually, she focused on drawing the human figure and calligraphy. She read a book by Layne Redmond entitled, ‘When Drummers Were Women', which made her realize for the first prehistoric times. She started her company based on the belief that it is indefensible to think of or treat women as inferior in any way. She created a gallery website in 2001. Her company purpose is to feature and sell paintings that enable women to visualize themselves in a liberating light that is inspiring and empowering. She believes that artists can play an important role in opening a way for women of the third millennium to realize their full potential. Her paintings are an attempt to reconnect women to what has been lost, to her prehistoric and matriarchal roots.
