Work History:
Ms. Young was promoted to the rank of detective in July 1988. She also worked in the 77th area, the juvenile division, the robbery homicide division and the department of internal affairs. She was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1991 and was transferred to the south traffic division. She was promoted to the rank of sergeant II in 1994. She was assigned to the tactical planning division and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in July 1995. She was promoted to the rank of lieutenant II in March of 1999 and was assigned to the Van Nuys Operations Support Division. She was the first African-American to be promoted to the rank of captain I within the Los Angeles Police Department in April 2000. She received a diploma from the FBI National Academy Associates in Quantico, VA in 1998. She is also a graduate of West Point Leadership Program at Supervisory Leadership Institute.
